Museum
Blanton Museum of Art
The Blanton Museum of Art occasionally hosts special screenings in the Blanton Auditorium, which seats 299. The museum is on The University of Texas campus facing MLK, very close to the Texas History Museum. The auditorium is on the second floor of the museum's Smith building.
No food and drinks are allowed in the auditorium -- bear that in mind if you buy something from the museum concession stand downstairs.
UT students, faculty and staff often receive discounts for movies screened at the Blanton.
You can park in a pay garage across the street from the museum, or on the street across MLK.
Carver Museum/Boyd Vance Theatre
The George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center shows movies at the museum's Boyd Vance Theatre. The museum itself occasionally hosts film-related exhibits.
For SXSW 2013, all Community Screenings will take place at the Boyd Vance Theatre, as well as the Texas High School Shorts screening and some SXSW Music events.

Cons: It's off the beaten path, so adjust your schedule accordingly.
Screens and capacity: The Boyd Vance theater seats 134.
Parking: Park in front of the museum, or in the lot on the north side of the building.

Nearby dining options: Blue Dahlia, a nice bistro (with wonderful bread) is about a quarter-mile away.

Mexican American Culture Center (MACC)
The Mexican American Cultural Center is dedicated to the preservation, creation, presentation, and promotion of Mexican American cultural arts and heritage. The center is a tremendous resource for the community and visitors to learn and participate in classes and programs that will foster a meaningful understanding and appreciation of not only Mexican American but also Native American, Chicano, and other Latino cultures. The programs and educational curriculum include the areas of visual art, theater, dance, literature, music, multi-media and the culinary arts.
The idea of establishing a cultural facility for Latino artists and the community emerged in the early 1970's. Hispanic visionaries, community members, and artists approached the City of Austin to request support for the development of a Hispanic focused cultural arts facility. After years of planning, the center was officially opened on September 15, 2007.
Harry Ransom Center, The University of Texas
The Harry Ransom Center at The University of Texas contains many large collections of film-related archival materials, from costumes used in Gone with the Wind to the script Robert De Niro used in Taxi Driver. The museum frequently holds exhibitions that are either related to film, or that incorporate aspects of film, and shows movies related to those exhibitions. The theater in which the movies are shown is relatively small, and the movies are usually on DVD, but admission is free to the museum and most screenings and events.
