Slackery SXSW Tidbits: The Sequel

in

Jette at SXSW 2008 /Yes, that's me in the picture on the right, which was taken during SXSW. (Thanks to Melanie Addington for taking it and posting it to Facebook.) No points for guessing which movie I was about to see. I'll probably look just like that this year, except for the lei, so say hi if you see me.

Meanwhile, the SXSW announcements and excellent blog entries keep rolling in. Here are a few for today:

  • In case you hadn't heard yet, Fantastic Fest and SXSW are co-sponsoring a special screening of some clips from Sacha Baron Cohen's latest film, Bruno. The screening takes place on Sunday night, March 15, at 11 pm at Alamo South Lamar. You don't need a SXSW badge or pass to attend -- it's first come, first serve. (I'm planning to see the Sam Raimi movie instead -- it's impossible to see both without a chauffeur, sadly.)
  • Micah has posted his SXSW 2009 Guidelines over at Reel Distraction. I've always been in awe of Micah's SXSW experience: he sees more movies in half the festival days than I do in the whole festival. This is a man who knows how to do the 6-film-a-day diet without seeming burned out or insane. So you may want to take notes on his guidelines. My only disagreement would be that I recommend catching one big splashy premiere at the Paramount, if you haven't done it before, just for the experience of watching a movie with 1,200 other people.
  • I've posted a preview of some of the most anticipated SXSW films this year over at Cinematical. They wouldn't let me post nothing but Texas films, but a few did sneak in there.
  • One of the awards at SXSW Film this year is for movie poster design. You can see the entries at the 2009 SXSW Film/AIGA Austin Movie Poster Gallery Show on Saturday from 5-9 pm at The 908 Gallery (908 Congress). But in the meantime, you can check out some of the entries in a Flickr set. I really like Three Blind Mice, as well as Mine and the poster for the special Metropolis screening (and I bet you can get that Metropolis poster from Mondo Tees).
  • If you haven't been checking out Austinist's previews of SXSW films, you really should go take a look. They're easiest to find from the site's SXSWist page.

After my own heart!

I don't feel so freakish now, seeing how Micah plans his movies.

I like the emphasis on smaller films, but I agree, you HAVE to do one big film at the Paramount or Alamo, because it's such a communal experience. There's no way I'd miss Sam Raimi at the Paramount.
