Movies This Week: Chekhov's Lost Resident Hit

How desperate is Hollywood for box-office money? Not only was Avatar re-released a couple of weeks ago, now The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is getting a re-release as well. But I'm liking the fact that the Winnebago Man travels over to Alamo Drafthouse on South Lamar this week, and is getting some other screenings at various Alamos, so check their schedule to see all the options for seeing it.
Meanwhile, here's what's opening in Austin this week -- sadly, none of these movies screened for press, so we have no reviews. We've been watching aGLIFF movies instead, and urge you to do the same through Sunday.
Anton Chekhov's The Duel -- A Chekhov book is adapted for the big screen by director Dover Koshashvili (Late Marriage). (Arbor)
Everyone Else -- Vacationing on the Mediterranean tests a German couple's relationship (pictured above, courtesy The Cinema Guild). (Arbor)
Danbangg -- Bollywood thriller, this time about a corrupt police officer who highlights the flaws in the system. (Cinemark Tinseltown 17)
I'm Still Here: The Lost Years of Joaquin Phoenix -- Joaquin Phoenix quit acting, and actor Casey Affleck (The Killer Inside Me, Gone Baby Gone) makes his directorial debut to let us know what's up with that. Interesting point of fact that may or may not be revealed in the film, is that Affleck is married to Phoenix's sister. (Lamar)
Resident Evil: Afterlife -- Alice is back and in 3D, battling the undead and the Umbrella corporation. Iis there any more to be said? (wide)
The Virginity Hit -- Huck Botko and Andrew Gurland, the same writers behind The Last Exorcism, co-wrote and co-directed this... what would you call a film dedicated to "losing it"? (wide)
Check out our personal picks below. Don't forget you can always alert us to special screenings, new film series, etc.
Elizabeth -- This weekend I'll be visiting the Paramount for their Nora Ephron/Meg Ryan double feature: When Harry Met Sally and Sleepless in Seattle (Friday and Saturday). I wonder how many people will quote along with, "I'll have what she's having?"
Jenn -- aGLIFF presents a special 10th anniversary screening of Prize Whores by Austinite Jenn Garrison at Alamo Lamar. I'm so there, as I've really wanted to see this film.
Jette -- Hoping to head over to the Starving Art Mini Drive-in next Thursday for some Lone Star noir -- the Coen brothers' film Blood Simple, which I think will play beautifully under the Texas stars. The drive-in is showing all kinds of great films this week, actually: The Blues Brothers tonight, and the original Bad News Bears tomorrow night.

Blues Brothers?
AWWW! I missed "The Blues Brothers"! Damn. I mean, I have it on DVD, but there is just something about seeing on a big screen with a ton of people!
