Fantastic Fest Daily Dispatch #6: Private Eyes and Crazy Racer Feasts

I'm so tired. But I'm a bit tense. only two days left, and I can feel the start of Post Fest Depression wanting to rear its ugly head. But there's two full days left. While there are still a lot of people attending, the numbers are dwindling, so you have a better chance of getting into stuff now, rather than later.
And before I forget, you can see the Fantastic Fest Awards winners online, and several have additional screenings in the next couple of days. And yes, VIP badges for next sold out even faster than last year.
Today was light on films for me. I got almost 6 whole hours of sleep. I made it in time for the Private Eye screening, which is now one of my favorite films of the fest. It's so dying for a sequel, but it may be a while. It's a great detective story, with very engaging characters. No news on US distribution, but it's early days.
I had to leave the Q&A of Private Eye early so I could make it to Breathless, a very good film, but very grim, and for some an unsatisfying resolution (it worked for me). I've become very impressed with contemporary Korean films thanks to Fantastic Fest and aGLIFF in the last couple of years, with Private Eye currently tying for favorite film of the fest so far (tying with the very different A Town Called Panic). It plays again, and I strongly recommend you catch it.
My last film of the day was Crazy Racer, but at the filmmaker feast event. Every year they pick a film to screen at Tim and Karrie League's place, with the Rolling Roadshow screen, and chef John Bullington put together a four course feast that was outstanding. It included crab wonton soup, Sichuan peppercorn venison with chiangking reduction and white yam, sesame pheasant with gai-lon (chinese brocolli) and red rice, and for dessert a ginger mousse with a fortune cookie and sugar plum. My fortune read, "A drunk man's words are a sober man's thoughts." Seems apropos for a film festival.

I decided I needed sleep more than to see the 100 Best Kills Party. Love ya, guys, but I've relinquished my seat eagerly to someone who has the energy to be appropriately enthusiastic (and potentially grossed out).
Tomorrow is a relatively light day for me, but that doesn't mean it's an empty day. I have Doghouse, Stingray Sam and Yesterday on my schedule, as well as the 3D Dance party. And I'm resting up now to party.
Fantastic Fest runs through Thursday, October 1 at the Alamo Drafthouse on South Lamar and the Paramount. Follow @fantasticfest and @slackerwood on Twitter for updates.
