2008 in Review: My Favorite Photos

in

I bought a new camera nearly a year ago, could you tell? Suddenly you could actually figure out who the people were in the photos I took in dark movie theaters. And now I've got lots of photos to share that I took during Austin movie-related events in 2008. I started an entry that turned out to be huge and unfocused, so I've broken it up into several sections. Today we'll start with my favorite photos of well-known actors and other film-related people. My very favorite is the one at the top -- Morgan Fairchild and ZZ Top at the Texas Film Hall of Fame. But I took a few more that night that I also liked.

Texas Film Hall of Fame Awards

Morgan Fairchild looked fabulous in every photograph I took:

So did Debra Winger:

I wish I had an audio recording of the conversation between Harlan Ellison and Elvis Mitchell while this photo was being taken. My memory does not do it justice.

John Pierson's RTF Master Class: Matt Stone

Stone had everyone in the audience laughing like crazy, including Pierson:

Surfer, Dude Premiere

Matthew McConaughey was at the Paramount in September to premiere his latest film:

Fantastic Fest

Austin Daze reporter Michele Williams asked Kevin Smith about controversial scenes in his movies:

People kept spreading rumors that Bill Murray would be in town for the closing-night film, City of Ember, and I thought that was just the usual festival crazy talk. But he did turn up at Alamo on the last night of the fest, and I got to take a bunch of photos of him. After I took this one, I knew I had exactly what I wanted, and didn't need anything else (although I took more anyway):

The opening-night film was W., and actor James Cromwell was at the Paramount to talk about it.

Which photo do you like best -- this one:

You Forgot Thom Yorke

That picture with Matthew McConaughey has Thom Yorke looking down off to the right. He's the very-very famous lead singer to one of the most creative bands of all time - Radiohead! They just performed at the Grammy's.
