Following Austin Film on Twitter

I don't know how many of you are using Twitter, the Web-based application you also can use with your phone's text-messaging service for microblogging, social interaction, and internet whatnot. I may be describing Twitter all wrong. Omar Gallaga has a good article about it here. It's one of those newfangled Web trends the kids are all crazy about. Except that in this case, it's not only "the kids" using Twitter -- lots of Austin film groups, festivals and online publications are sharing interesting bits of info via Twitter.

Here's a list of Twitter accounts (after the jump) that you can follow if you want to keep up with Austin film news and events and gossip. I'm only including publicly accessible accounts, not the private ones. If I missed anyone, please feel free to add your Twitter info in the comments.

Theaters, Groups and Fests

These Twitter feeds tend to be limited to links about upcoming Austin film events -- not a lot of chatter, but solid news.

  • afs1985 -- Austin Film Society
  • drafthouse -- Alamo Drafthouse (original)
  • austinfilmfest -- Austin Film Festival
  • fantasticfest -- I think the Fantastic Fest and Alamo Drafthouse tweets are cross-posted to both accounts, but I'm following both just in case.
  • sxsw -- Covers all aspects of the SXSW conference, including Film, Interactive, and Music.

These Twitter feeds include film-related news and chatter, but some are more general and will also include a lot of other entertainment or Austin news.

  • AustinistFilm -- Film news from Austinist.
  • austin360 -- Austin 360, the entertainment arm of the Austin American-Statesman, tweets about a variety of Austin goings-on, including film news.
  • AustinChronicle -- General news from the Austin Chronicle.
  • spillcrew -- Austin-based film site

Austin Film Geeks

These Twitter users may be film geeks, but tend to chat about a variety of topics. Most of us are friendly, so don't be shy to say hello.

Very helpful list, and thank you for including me!
