Movies This Week: The Girl with the Yellow Titan Too

I'm channelling Lily von Shtupp right now, I swear. SXSW is exhausting enough, but trying to wrap it up ... I'm beat. Good thing there's all this gorgeous weather right now, huh? If you need to get out of the sun because you forgot your sunscreen, there's a lot out there:
Clash of the Titans -- I skipped the screening because I'm still recovering from (and writing about) SXSW, but I'm sad I missed it because of all the snarky tweets ranting about the bad retrofitted 3D. Debbie can tell you more, so read her review. (wide)
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo -- This SXSW 2010 film from Sweden (pictured above), based on a murder mystery novel by Stieg Larsson, is long at 152 minutes. If I weren't so tired, I would've gone to the press screening earlier this week. It looks like it's the first film in a trilogy. (Arbor)
The Last Song -- More Nicholas Sparks, this time with Miley Cyrus. 'Nuff said, 'cuz if you're a Sparks fan, you already know part of the plot, how it'll play out, and where it's filmed. (wide)
Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married Too? -- There is no point in trying to explain this one. (wide)
Varudu -- No idea what it's about, but it's directed by someone named "Gunasekhar" and it's in the action genre so I assume it's Bollywood. (Tinseltown South)
The Yellow Handkerchief -- The strangers on a Louisiana road trip and one of them is a recently released convict. Ironically this is not a horror film. Cast includes William Hurt, Maria Bello, Kristen Stewart. Read Don's review for the full scoop. (Arbor)
Check our event calendar for special film events, and our personal picks below. Don't forget you can always alert us to special screenings, new film series, etc.
Jette -- Yay, we get one more chance to see this year's Oscar-nominated short films. Alamo Lake Creek is showing both the animated and live-action shorts for four nights starting Thursday 4/8. Dying to see the Wallace and Gromit short myself.
Debbie -- Austin Film Society is screening a favorite film of mine, Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence (1983) on Tuesday 4/6, at Alamo South Lamar. Starring David Bowie, Tom Conti and Ryuichi Sakamoto, who was also the composer for this film. Sakamoto collaborated with David Sylvian of 80s new romantic band Japan, and is the vocalist on one of the most haunting songs from the soundtrack, "Before the War."
Jenn -- I'm sleeping in this weekend. I need to rest up for Cine Las Americas International Film Festival after all (starts in three weeks).
