About Slackerwood
Slackerwood is devoted to reporting and reviewing all aspects of Austin film. Austin film communities have grown so substantially in recent years that you could fill a Web site with nothing but local film-related information. So that's our goal.
We want to promote upcoming special screenings and film-related events and later report on those events that we're able to attend. We're also planning to review movies made in Austin or by Austin filmmakers, possibly including interviews with some of those filmmakers. In addition, we want to share the latest news about films in production in Austin and Central Texas. However, we're not a celebrity gossip site ... you'll have to look elsewhere for unsubstantiated rumors about So-and-So's love life.
We want to be your one-stop-shop for Austin film news and reviews. We're not scared to share our opinions as well as report the news.
Who is this "we"? Partially it's me, Jette Kernion, but I'm often joined by other contributors, such as Chris Holland, Nick Robinson, and Anne Heller. I hope to add more writers to the site soon.
Why "Slackerwood"? I wanted a name to encompass the Austin film scene. "Little Hollywood" and "Hollywood of the South" could describe a dozen or more American cities all competing for film productions right now. "Third Coast" is good, but apparently Chicago also claims that term. Somehow, "Slackerwood" seemed just about right. I don't want to imply that Austin filmmakers and programmers are slackers, but we do seem to follow our own path.
Please contact me with news about your upcoming Austin screenings, film-related events, or filmmaking updates.
