Austin, Texas trip

The George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center shows movies at the museum's Boyd Vance Theatre. The museum itself occasionally hosts film-related exhibits.

For SXSW 2013, all Community Screenings will take place at the Boyd Vance Theatre, as well as the Texas High School Shorts screening and some SXSW Music events.

Pros: It's off the beaten path, so you stand a good chance of getting into events. And for the Community Screenings, you can bring a friend for free.

Cons: It's off the beaten path, so adjust your schedule accordingly.

Screens and capacity: The Boyd Vance theater seats 134.

Parking: Park in front of the museum, or in the lot on the north side of the building.

Distance: It's 1.3 miles away from Alamo Drafthouse Ritz, and about 1.5 miles from Austin Convention Center.

On-site food and beverages: None. No outside food or drink allowed, except water.

Nearby dining options: Blue Dahlia, a nice bistro (with wonderful bread) is about a quarter-mile away.
